The 24 Days of Christmas – Day 8

As we all know, Christmas is fast approaching and as we all also know, many of you will be struggling to think of interesting gift ideas for your nearest and dearest. ‘What shall we buy to show our love?!’ we hear you cry. Well, fear not, for we at the Fold know that sometimes, thinking beyond the usual DVD boxsets/smellies/Xbox games can be a little difficult, and so over the course of December we endeavour to bring you a new gift idea each day on the run-up to Christmas, totalling 24, and with each one we shall also bring you an accompanying song that somehow represents the gift in some way. ‘Gift ideas and related entertainment?!’ we hear you now crying! ‘How on Earth do they manage it?!’

S’easy.

Gift idea #8: The Korg Kaossilator.

null

Ever fancied being the world’s next Timbaland/DJ Shadow/Aphex Twin/Pete Rock? Well to be honest if that’s true you’ll probably need to get a bit more kit than just this one gizmo, but let’s be honest, it’s a start.

The Kaossilator follows on looks-wise from that other amazing piece of Korg hardware, the Kaoss Pad, and allows its users to create beats using built-in samples, loop functionality and a responsive touchpad system. It’s taken the electronic world by storm – units flew off shelves on release in Japan and given its portable size and fairly modest price tag, it’s not hard to see why. Here’s a short demo video showing what can be done with this unassuming yet hugely fun piece of kit…

Available now from firebox.com.

To play us out, here’s a hit that I’ve previously featured on this blog but I love it so much, here it is again. Precise, synth-heavy and just right, to paraphrase a certain Tribe, here are Chromeo with Night by Night… video’s pretty good too.
