Plasticiens Volants & Os Gemeos present ‘O Estrangeiro’

November 25, 2009

We at the Fold have already expressed a fondness for the work of Brazilian street artists Os Gemeos.

Earlier this month in Sao Paulo the twins got together with Plasticiens Volants, a group of performance artists from France that specialise in making large-scale inflatable models. Os Gemeos have gotten in on the act, actualising one of their instantly-recognisable cartoon figures into a huge float attraction.

Family Guy – Something, Something, Something…Darkside!

November 25, 2009

The full length trailer for Family Guy’s Empire Strikes Back parody Family Guy: Something, Something, Something, Dark Side premieres today on iTunes and YouTube. Interestingly, the trailer is shot for shot remake of the original trailer from the 1980 classic The Empire Strikes Back. Here’s hoping it has a few more jokes than the first offering- movie references will only get you so far.

Here is the official synopsis:

The saga continues as Luke (Chris), Leia (Lois), Han Solo (Peter) and Chewbacca (Brian) have evaded the dreaded Imperial Starfleet led by the cunning, conniving and curiously short evil lord Darth Vader (Stewie), setting up a new secret base on the remote ice world of Hoth. With the rebellion in trouble, young Skywalker must take the advice of his late, and rather lascivious, mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi (Herbert) and learn the ways of the “farce” under Jedi Master Yoda (Carl) to save the galaxy once and for all.

And here’s the trailer:

The movie will be released on the 22nd of December on iTunes, DVD and Blu-Ray on the 22nd December 2009.

A new weapon in the arsenal available to any budding DJ comes in the form of this, the Vestax Spin & DJ 3.0. Combining software and hardware, the equipment features two turntables and a mixer, complete with all the conventional mod cons such as EQ’s, pitch adjustment, faders and loop functionality. The software that comes bundled with it works in much the same way as other digital DJ software such as Torq or Serato, and also allows you to incorporate the mix into a podcast, slideshow or movie with ease.

Mississippi Punch

2 shots cognac
1 shot bourbon
1 shot dark rum
1/2 shot lemon juice
2 tsp superfine sugar

Shake well in a chilled shaker full of cracked ice, and then strain into a Collins glass 2/3 full of fresh cracked ice. Garnish with fresh fruit – a slice of orange and a few raspberries are the staple here, although any fruit will do depending on your tastes. Then, stick loads of stuff in it – straws, umbrellas, sparklers, whatever you fancy.

Chanel Stop Motion Film for V Magazine #62 – Directed by Stephen Smith

November 20, 2009

Not quite sure what else to say about this… stop-motion fans will probably like it but it’s a tad strange!! A short little piece directed by Stephen Smith and Chanel for V Magazine. Pretty much just an advert for Chanel, stop-frame animation is a nice little nostalgic technique that we at the Fold do enjoy.

Google’s Next Step Towards World Domination

November 20, 2009

os

The internet. Pretty useful if you need dramatic chipmunks in your life and irreverent musings from smug bloggers. I’m sure some of you reading this now are flicking between a stream site, a flash game, some illicit material and actual work. Google have taken note and created their own operating system framed around instant accessibility to the wireless and multi-multi-tasking.

For a product thats essentially preparing to kill Windows, it does look pretty cute!

Idris Elba Joins Cast of Thor

November 20, 2009

idris

To add to an already diverse mixture of talent, Idris ‘Stringer’ Elba will be joining up with Kenneth Branagh’s ensemble to film Marvel’s Norse nutter Thor. Elba will play Heimdall, the guardian of Asgard, who stands on the BiFrost Bridge ready to defend the city from invaders. I just read that last bit out loud and started rolling dice – send for help.

Filming begins next February.

Michael Stipe x Maison Martin Margiela

November 19, 2009

Did you know that Mr, Stipe, frontman of shiny, happy rock band REM was also a sculptor? No, neither did I, although Stipe’s exhibition of cast bronze sculptures at the Rogan Boutique in June last year would say otherwise. Embracing this lesser-known cultural output of his is Belgian label Maison Martin Margiela, for whom Stipe has created this metal cassette-tape accessory.

Apparently part accessory, part ‘objet d’art’ that fits in nicely with MMM’s ‘found art’ perspective on design, no doubt aping the likes of Marcel Duchamp, this mini tape comes complete with a tape band that doubles as a chain. Can be wrapped up and used as a bracelet, or a necklace, or whatever the hell you want to have a metal tape hanging off. Limited to just 199 pieces, odds are these will become collector’s items very quickly. Available from Maison Martin Margiela boutiques and select retailers.
