A songwriter with emotional purpose and honesty these days is a rare thing indeed, making it all the more rewarding when you find an artist like N’Dambi. The striking vocalist, pianist and composer from Dallas, Texas, known for her distinctive afro and fiery style, possesses an abundance of creativity that should see her offering countless contributions to modern R&B and soul for many years to come.

N’Dambi first emerged as a backing vocalist for Erykah Badu, later contributing to her 1997 breakthrough album Baduizm. Her solo debut, Little Lost Girls Blues was released in 1999 to muted applause. But now shes back with her new lp, Pink Elephant on Stax Records. Hoping this time round she get the sales figures to match the critical reverence.

The album is out now in all good retailers and possibly a few bad ones.

Heres a couple of tracks to whet your appetitite.
