Windows and Family Guy

The marketing of the new Windows 7 OS thus far has brought more laughs than the average sitcom. Perhaps spurred on from this selling point, Microsoft have decided to team up with the Seth Macfarlane in an effort to push their potential Mac beater past the ridicule barrier. Madison Vine of AdAge reports that. “The software giant has signed a deal with Fox to sponsor a variety show produced by ‘Family Guy’ creator Seth MacFarlane, voice of the family guy himself, Peter Griffin, and actress Alex Borstein, who plays wife Lois Griffin. The show will air Nov. 8 without commercial interruption–because it will instead feature Windows-branded programming throughout the program,”. It will be interesting to see how the Macfarlane camp utilise the Microsoft brand for comic effect. Transparent advertising has worked wonders for programmes such as 30 Rock.

The question is whether Microsoft is willing to let comedy flourish over the institution.
